Penthouse Clear – Lemon Lime

February 06, 2010 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Insoitol, Taurine

Penthouse Clear is the “Penthouse” name you normally think of….  the sexy devil cat girl on the label will remind you of that also!  The can design is nothing crazy but devil cat girls are “Clearly Stimulating” according to the can!  :)   The manufacturer of Penthouse clear takes this product seriously and you can check out the process here.

Once we crack this baby open we find:

-Clear color with a faint gold hue to it

-Slight mild aroma similar to a Vernors

-Very sweet taste that taste slightly like perfume. (maybe the devil girl?)

-Distinct aftertaste and that film on the roof of your mouth but disappears rapidly

-Didn’t seem very carbonated but the belch factor was high.

-Includes the usual suspects: Caffeine, taurine, inositol and B vitamins

- Never seen Xian Cao on an ingredient list before (Siegesbeckia Plant, used in Chinese medicine)

Overall the marketing on this can rocks!  Who can just walk past this drink and not be curious whats on the inside?  The taste of this drink just wasn’t my style but there is a nice little energy boost in it for ya!

Mona Vie

February 05, 2010 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Ginseng, Guarana, Juice, Vitamins

Mona Vie comes in a 250 ml black can with a light blue pull tab and blue band on the rim.

It’s a plain and simple can with a slight color accent that looks nice!  Mona Vie claims to be “the premier acai blend”  80% juice – no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners!

When you crack the can open it has a grape aroma that may smell like wine.

When poured into a glass it has a murky look, purpleish color and I noticed some floaties in there (I have noticed

other acai drinks that have the floaties… so maybe something with the berry itself?)

The taste is very tart and dry, I also thought it had to Jekyll and Hyde style to it… when I took my first sip I didn’t really like it but once I was done I wanted more.

Overall it is an interesting and complex beverage that is worth sampling if you have the chance!

Hydrive Energy Triple Berry

February 04, 2010 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Ginkgo, Taurine, Vitamins

Today we have a Hydrive Triple Berry quick look review!

  • crystal clear red color
  • non-carbonated, enhanced water energy drink
  • first sip strong and tart but smooths out
  • tasty berry flavor
  • minimal aftertaste
  • caffeine, taurine, ginkgo + acai
  • 30 calories
  • great afternoon pick me up while at work

Conclusion: I was impressed with this low calorie offering, the flavor is good and I didn’t notice that nasty or strange aftertaste you get with certain artificial sweeteners.  I would drink this again and recommend to my friends who want something lighter than a Redbull / Monster.

Emergen-C

January 08, 2010 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Vitamins

emergen-CI always heard the hype of Emergen-C on travel and airline message boards but never tried it.  I have sample Airborne before so I needed to see what this stuff was about.

The single serve powder comes in a 0.3oz tear open packet that you add to 4-6 oz of water.  I have heard people add it to a 20 oz water bottle ect… I guess as long as you drink all the powder your in good shape!  For testing purposes I added the powder to 6 oz of water and gave it a stir!

Tangerine is the flavor I have but once you add it to water it looks more like lemonade.  They claim its a  “Flavored Fizzy Drink Mix” but there isn’t much fizz at all… NOTHING like an alka-seltzer.  Once you take a sip there is a faint tangerine flavor but nothing overpowering and no aftertaste.

They claim 24 nutrients w/ antioxidants, electrolytes and 7 B vitamins. 1 pack gives you 1,667% of your daily Vitamin C allowance!!

There is no caffeine or other stimulants so all the energy or boost you get is from the vitamins ect.  It’s more of feel good kind of drink IMO, if your draggin ass, it won’t hurt to take but it’s sure not gonna give you all the boost you need.

I rank this right up there with Airborne, so grab a pack and try to stay healthy this winter!

Neuro Fuel “New Formula” review update

December 22, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Energy Drinks

We had reviewed the original Neuro Fuel back in Jan 2009 and it was just awful!!

I have numerous people email and comment to me that I had the “old” formula or a bad can and couldn’t see how I reviewed it so bad…. Neurofuel

Fast forward to December 2009: The kind folks at NF have sent me a few cans on the new formula to check out !!

The cans are labeled with “New Improved Flavor” just to make sure you know this is correct stuff.  I cracked this can open and things smelled better and I was excited to taste.  The aroma you smell isn’t exactly inviting but it’s no longer disgusting.  First sip you notice a sweet taste maybe a hint a grapefruit or citrus….. the flavor is strong and there is a significant aftertaste but it dissipates rather quick (less than 2 mins).

Overall the “improved formula” is much better than the original I sampled!  This stuff is drinkable and I now understand what people were talking about.

I will remove the “Do Not Buy” rating on Neuro Fuel ;) Feel free to sample a can if you like!

Hydrive Energy – Blue Raspberry

December 03, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Energy Drinks, Vitamins

Today we had a chance to sample some Hydrive Energy – Blue Raspberry (enhanced water energy drink).

Hydrive Blue

Hydrive comes in 5 different flavors (15.5 oz plastic bottle) and they all have a unique formula.  The Blue Raspberry is the Strength formula.

I love this color of this drink once poured into a glass, it has that rich pool water blue look, sorta like Windex!  Hydrive has a very faint aroma but if you do notice anything it may be a generic berry smell.

First sip is mellow, non carbonated and no overpowering flavors make this very easy to drink.  (For reference: Vitamin water has a stronger taste) I would have no problem slugging this down on a hot day, and it leaves only a light aftertaste!  This drink won’t help you much after a screaming late night party and you need to be at work @ 8am, but it will give ya little pep and quench your thirst!

  • 30 calories
  • Low sugar
  • B vitamins
  • Electrolytes
  • Amino Acids

Hydrive Energy chews

November 05, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Vitamins

hydrive chew

Today we had the chance to sample some Orange Burst Hydrive Energy chews!

There are 4 chews in a pack and 40mg of caffeine per chew, calcium and plenty of Vitamin C, B3, B5, B6 and B12!

When you unwrap one of these you see a substance similar to a Starburst and notice a orangy aroma similar to baby aspirin.

Pop one of these in your mouth and it has tart flavor and a orange flavor with a hint of vanilla…. or maybe a concentrated Tang flavor with a slightly gritty texture.  The orange flavor has a long aftertaste which isn’t a bad thing, especially when your at your desk staring at a computer.  These have a good taste and I think you could non energy drink fans to eat these, they have no energy drink taste.  You will get a little energy boost and the more you eat the greater the boost.  Do not consume more than 8 chews in a 24 hr period!

You can purchase these online at www.hydriveenergy.com Get 20% off when you mention code: HYD20

I have some other Hydrive drinks to review so stay tuned for those!

Blood Energy Potion

October 28, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Energy Drinks

Do you wanna be a hit at your Halloween or next Twilight party??  If so you need to score some Blood Energy Potion! (Click the pix for a nice high res version)

Blood Energy Potion

The folks over at Harcos have really hit a home run in the marketing department.

Blood Energy Potion comes in a cool IV transfusion style bag, thick blood like texture and iron like aftertaste to quench your lust for blood!

When you decide you have a thirst for blood, grab a bag and twist the cap, you will notice a pleasing Hawaiian Punch fruity aroma.  I poured some blood into a glass to check out the texture and consistency… The color and consistency look pretty good!!  The whole marketing concept is fantastic, I have a girl in my office that was to freaked out to try more than a sip.  If this was in a 8oz can and was called Fruit Power Explosion, people wouldn’t think twice about drinking this.  Now that you have your Blood Energy in your goblet, swirl it around to watch it coat the inside and then take sip, it has a thick texture that instantly coats your tongue and plays a mental mind trick with you as your are holding the IV bag…!!!!

Blood Energy Potion is available now without a prescription from livingwithbloodlust.com, and will soon be available from retailers, including Hot Topic, Fry’s Electronics, Micro Center and ThinkGeek, among others.

People living with Bloodlust, or concerned about the possibility, can visit livingwithbloodlust.com for tips, testimonials, or a diagnosis.

Those who may be experiencing Bloodlust and need urgent assistance can call the Bloodlust hotline at 310-526-FANG (3264) for a free consultation with one of Blood Energy Potion’s trained representatives.

Mtn Dew Game Fuel

July 23, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine

Attention World of WarCraft Gamers, we have something here for you. Mountain Dew® is proud to introduce Game Fuel, two limited-time-only flavors inspired by the hit video game World of Warcraft.

Horde Red:”Dew with a blast of citrus cherry flavor” Has a deep orange color with the aroma of Triaminic orange cough syrup.  First sip you take is a tad bitter, mild carbonation and taste similar to the Triaminic cough syrup. (I used to love that stuff when i was a kid). I did taste a little bit of  a dry cherry flavor but that disappears quickly.  Don’t plan on chugging this drink, you need to sip this while your game loads up.

Alliance Blue: “Dew with a punch of wild fruit flavor” has a deep sea INTENSE BLUE color but there is not real pronounced aroma that I smelled.  First sip generates a mildly carbonated super sugary sweet Popsicle fruit flavor that is hard to describe.  The fruity flavor is mild and dissipates quickly with minimal aftertaste.  I would drink this again!

*121mg of caffeine and 76g of sugar in the 20 oz bottle

Visit HTTP://WARCRAFT.COM/DEW to register for your chance win great gaming prizes every 15 minutes, including Alienware notebooks, Razer peripherals and
World of Warcraft gear.

Sport Energy

July 22, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, EDG suggested, Energy Drinks, Ginseng, Guarana, Taurine

** UPDATE **

Sport Energy has been discontinued as of Nov 2009

———-

Sport Energy is not going to win any art / design contest with the look of their can BUT I was excited to see the 16oz cans were made with real sugar!  I love sampling drinks made with real sugar compared to the HFCS!

Doo Drop: has the color of Mt Dew, aroma similar to gatorade, medium carbonation, tart flavor and a nice sweet taste that real sugar produces! Doo Drop was my favorite out of the bunch! EDG Recommended Sport Energy

Mango Cream: has the color of Tang, smells like Tang, the flavor is similar to Tang with added baby aspirin, first sip is a strong flavor assault on your tongue that I enjoyed!

Raspberry Cream: pale pink clear color, aroma is similar to cotton candy/cream soda, medium carbonation, good rich flavor start to finish, strong lingering taste.

Fruit Punch: transparent reddish-pink color, dead ringer for Hawaiian Punch, if you added carbonation to HP you would get Sport Energy Fruit Punch!  The sweet sugar grabs your tongue on that first sip, medium carbonation, this drink is a pleasure to drink.

The 16oz cans of Sport Energy include 1000mg of Taurine, 80mg of caffeine, 5mg of Guarana, 5mg of Ginseng and 43.5g of sugar per 12oz serving (less than Mt Dew). The energy boost you feel is similar to what you get from the big 3.

Shots: The 2.5oz sport energy shots are a whole different game……I know the “energy shot” market is exploding but I have yet to find many shots that taste good and Sporty Energy shots are no exception.  I can’t lie to you, these shots smell like old tennis shoes and the taste is pretty awful.  I had 4 co-workers take a sniff and sample the taste and they all agree these are nasty! But to be fair I have not found an energy shot that tasted good.  The quote of “Shockingly great taste” could be correct IF it just said “Shocking Taste”!

It’s amazing how different these drinks are when compared to each other.  The real sugar 16oz version is great tasting and enjoyable, the energy shots are just nasty.
