Arizona Green Tea - Energy Drink

June 02, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Tea

Arizona Energy green teaToday we busted open an Arizona Green Tea Energy out of the fridge.

*Very faint aroma upon opening, maybe fruit/tea

*Mild carbonation

*Cloudy carmel tan color (no very pleasing)

*This drink lacks quite a bit in the flavor department… has “tea” taste but not enjoyable. (4/5 on the sampling panel did not care for it)

*Once you swallow this drink, there is a very bitter aftertaste

* Purchased for $.60 @ Big Lots

*There really isn’t much to discuss on this drink

*I don’t recommmend this to anyone unless you get it for free

Mt.Dew vs Moutain Dew throwback

April 23, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, EDG suggested

Today we have a head to head showdown between Mountain Dew.

Dew showdowndew1

I am a huge Mt Dew fan and I just saw this new “throwback” version at Target last night.  A 12 pk of the throwback will set ya back $4.49, but that was the same price as the regular Pepsi and dew at Target.  The logo on the can takes ya back to the 70’s and 80’s era and you get go old sugar as the sweetener!

Current Dew uses high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener and has 46g of sugar per serving.  I noticed a higher level of carbonation and more of a syrupy texture vs the throwback.

Throwback Dew uses old school sugar and has 44g of sugar per serving.  I really enjoyed the smooth sweet taste throwback provides.  Even though there are 2g less sugar per can I feel it tastes sweeter than the current dew.

Overall I think Throwback is the hands down winner:

  • Smooth taste
  • Natural sugar
  • Sweeter flavor
  • Same 54mg of caffeine
  • 2 less grams of sugar
  • 50 grams of sodium (65g in current dew)

Deton8 Energy

March 27, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Insoitol, Taurine

I know it’s been a while since I posted a review but it’s been crazy at work and let’s get back to business.

Deton8This fine Deton8 Energy drink came from a C-store down in Georgia that had the cashier enclosed in bullet proof glass!

First crack of the can and you get the common Red Bull aroma that we are all so familiar with!
D8 has an orange’ish gold color
Fruitier tasting than Red Bull
Has more carbonation at the back of tongue
Finishes really clean –  less than 15 seconds
Decent lookingl can – black with green explosion
A guest taster in the EDG labs felt this would go great with vodka

D8 is kinda spare on the ingredients, no vitamins, ginseng, guarana ect… it’s good tasting drink with 76mg of caffeine.  if you need maximum energy for a late night road trip, this is NOT your drink.

Ingredients: Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, malic acid, taurine,
Sodium citrate, natural and artificial flavor, caffeine, potassium benzoate (a pre-
servative), Inositol, niacin amide (vitamin B3), caramel color, D-calcium
pantothenate (vitamin B5), Pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), Yellow 5,
Red 40, cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12)

MotoGP satellite squad becomes Monster Yamaha Tech 3

March 03, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: MotoGP

Looks like Monster is back in the MotoGP arena for 2009. Rossi has signed a personal deal with them for a “M” claw on his helmet…. BUT now Monster will have 2 full sponsored machines on the grid!!!
Yamaha’s Tech 3 satellite team have reached a two-year title sponsorship agreement with energy drink brand Monster, which will see the squad rebranded as Monster Yamaha Tech 3 from the 2009 season onwards.
The team, headed by Herve Poncharal and running riders Colin Edwards and James Toseland, have been one of the more successful satellite efforts in recent seasons, and now have the strong backing of America’s number one by-volume sales energy drink factory behind them as they attempt another strong campaign in the MotoGP premier class. Their bikes will be decked out with the Monster Energy M-Claw logo, most recently placed on Yamaha factory rider Valentino Rossi’s helmet in a personal sponsorship deal.
“It’s great to be linked with a growing brand such as Monster Energy, which has such a strong image and a big profile,” says Poncharal of the agreement. “Monster are very keen to support MotoGP and I’m sure that our partnership will prove to be very successful. Our aims are to go even better than in 2008, and thanks to this agreement we are highly motivated to do so.”
The attraction of sponsoring the team was explained by Monster Energy President Mark Hall, with the personalities involved in the project giving strong pulling power to the project.
“Both Colin and James have built huge followings throughout their careers and they are extremely popular riders, so Monster Energy is pleased to become part of their continued efforts through our partnership with the Tech 3 Yamaha team for the upcoming ‘09 MotoGP season,” comments Hall.
“Tech 3 has a highly successful track record as one of MotoGP’s premier teams and will provide a solid platform for Monster Energy as we continue to develop our brand image globally.”

On Go Energy

January 24, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Ginseng, Taurine, Vitamins

We have another contender in the 2 oz energy drink market!

On Go Energy is offered in 3 different flavors; Lemon Lime, Berry Blast and Mandarin Orange. on-go

Today we will be sampling the Mandarin Orange flavor. On Go comes in a 2 oz white plastic screw cap bottle with a plastic label sleeve. The first thing you will smell when you crack this bottle open is baby aspirin… i am not talking the general “baby aspirin energy drink” taste, i am talking about the orange St. Josephs baby aspirin you had as a kid! if you don’t remember those little orange aspirin pills, it does resemble an orange creamsicle smell and taste.

Compared to those other 2 oz energy drinks that taste pretty medicine like, On Go has a great flavor you can sip or chug! Non-carbonated, finishes clean, minimal aftertaste and taste good!

On Go states “No carbs, no sugar, no crash, stamina, focus and endurance” and only 8 calories for calorie counters!

I give On Go the thumbs up, if you want a quick pick me up and don’t feel like drinking a 16 oz can this is your ticket!

I sampled the Lemon Lime flavor and I am not a fan, the Orange is 100x better in my eyes.

Final Round Results:
1. Mandarin Orange (Hands down winner)
2. Berry Blast (great taste)
3. Lemon Lime (I wasn’t a fan, it didn’t compare with the other flavors :( )

Starbucks Cinnamon Dulce

January 21, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Coffee, Ginseng, Guarana, Insoitol, Taurine, Vitamins

We were very pleased with the first batch of Starbucks Energy + Coffee drinks and now they are introducing a new flavor to the lineup!

CINNAMON DULCE sbx-cinn

Today we cracked open a can of Cinnamon Dulce and was greeted with coffee aroma similar to the other SBX drinks and a very slight hint of cinnamon. Once poured into a glass this drink looks THICK and RICH with a deep caramel color.

The first sip I took was rather rough…. (NOTE: EDG is a not a fan of cinnamon) I noticed a strong cinnamon taste and almost thought I was sipping out of an ashtray…. A few more sips later the ashtray/cinnamon taste was going away and it became more drinkable! I had another colleague (who enjoys cinnamon) sample this drink and he liked it start to finish.

I could drink this again BUT I would prefer one of the other Starbucks Energy drinks. I’m sure plenty of people out there will really enjoy this drink!

List of the good stuff:
- 1800mg Taurine
- 180mg Inositol
- 325mg Ginsing
- 90mg Guarana
- 450mg L-Carnitine
- 2000mg Maltodextrin

If you like cinnamon + coffee I highly recommend you try this drink once it hits the market on Jan 22, 2009.

Neuro Fuel

January 08, 2009 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Taurine, Vitamins

neurofuel

There is no way to put a positive spin on Neuro Fuel……  This stuff is HORRIBLE!

NF has a screaming canary yellow color that looks really good but once the aroma hits your nose you are wondering why they would put yack piss in a can!  I consulted with 4 of my colleagues to confirm my finding and give NF a non-biased review.  All 5 of us had that same WTF look on our face once you got a wiff of this liquid!

If you are still tempted to taste this vile fluid you will get a very dry taste similar to a sugar free drink, medium aftertaste and a taste that I’m lost for words on….

PLEASE - do not waste your $$$$$ on this drink…. it is not worth $.02, I wouldn’t drink this if you gave it to me free!

I took about 3 sips and had to pour the rest out, this vile sludge ranks up there in the top 5 worst energy drinks.

I have no comment on the energy boost since I couldn’t drink enough to tell.

They claim this is a “mood enhancing formula” and I have to agree, I was really pissed off after drinking this.

The website for NF is kinda cool though!

Neuro Fuel was sent to me by an EDG fan and I am sorry I don’t remember your name but thanks for sending this in…. and sorry about the honest review of it.

Berry CRUNK!!!

December 24, 2008 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Ashwangandha, Caffeine, Ginseng, Guarana, Horny Goat Weed, Insoitol, Milk Thistle, Vitamins

berry-crunk

Today I am excited to crack open this new flavor in the CRUNK!!! series! Get ready to feast your eyes and taste buds on Berry CRUNK!!! (acai berry-flavored)

The Berry can is very similar to the CRUNK!!! series but in a purple color scheme but I personally like this can design the best.  Crunk still offers the 16 oz can and not 15 oz like some of the others are switching to.

When you first open up the can you get a pleasant grape juice aroma that is very inviting if you are drinking this first thing in the morning like me.  I poured some BC in a glass and saw a murky purple color (remember that Citrus CRUNK!!! had that murky color but a 5 star taste) and not a lot of carbonation present.

First sip produces a tart robust flavor that is very different (in a good way) from the standard juice energy drinks.  BC has a brief micro carbonation tingle on your tongue and leaves a slight aftertaste.  BC does not taste like an energy drink in any way shape or form!!  If you know someone who doesn’t like the ED taste but wants an energy boost, here is your drink!  Berry CRUNK!!! produces a nice little pick me up kick that is similar to what we saw in Citrus CRUNK!!!

Overall I am pleased with Berry but I still think Citrus has a slight edge in the long run but I would love to start my morning with a Berry CRUNK!!

If you are in an area where you can’t fiind Crunk at your local store, you can always purchase at the CRUNK!! online store. http://store.crunkenergydrink.com/

Rubyy - Blood Orange Energy

December 02, 2008 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Guarana, Taurine

Have you ever wanted to be ” On all day and UP all night”?  If so then Rubyy Blood Orange Energy may be for you!  Straight in to the EDG labs from sunny California is a fresh new ultra premium luxury energy drink; Rubyy!

The first thing you will notice is the fantastic looking 12 oz aluminum bottle. This bottle fits in your hand perfectly, it gets super cold and the graphic design is top notch!

Lets crack open a  Rubyy and see what we find…….  the first aroma I smell is pleasant and light, similar to grapefruit-orange.  Rubyy produces a color very similar to pink grapefruit juice, there is even some very fine particles of pulp you can see if poured into a glass.  The pulp comes from the 8% REAL juice added: blood orange juice, tangerine juice & Valencia orange juice round out the mix.

First sip and yields extreme mild carbonation, not very sweet and finishes exceptionally clean.  I also noticed that the flavor is not over powering, it’s subtle, relaxed and doesn’t linger on your tongue very long.

Did I mention the can design is bad ass?  For all you late night clubbers this can even GLOWS under black light! Look for Rubyy next time you visit your favorite club in LA or when you stay at a W hotel.

Rubyy will provide you with a nice steady energy boost that doesn’t crash on you!  (80mg of caffeine, 130 cal & 29g of sugar)

The “yy” in the Rubyy name is the only link that would tell you that the co-founders of Skyy Vodka had thier hands in this project!

Omega Lime Mojito

November 17, 2008 By: Enery Drink Guru Category: Caffeine, Ginseng, Insoitol, Taurine, Vitamins

Today I am excited to review Omega Lime Mojito!  As you may know, Omega Mango Passionfruit is at the top of my energy drink list!

Fuse list Lime Mojito as  “Twice the Mega energy along with the taste of lime and mint.”

As with most Omega drinks, I was please to see that there was no high fructose corn syrup use!!!

When you crack this can open I was expecting a vibrant lime green color and tangy sour lime aroma…. WRONG.  You will have to settle for a pale gold color and a spearmint aroma.

Lets take a swig of this and see…… hmmmm am i drinking liquid Doublemint gum,  WTF is this,  did someone pull a switch-a-roo on me?  The MINT is the dominant flavor of this less than exciting beverage, I am barley tastign any lime.  Micro carbonaton bubble tingle your tounge leaving a subtle aftertaste that does not last very long.

I am going to give Omega Lime Mojito a pass, I wouldn’t spend the $2 unless you are a HUGE SPEARMINT fan.  I really can’t comment on the energy boost factor since I couldn’t drink more than a few swigs (sorry readers).

Here is the goodie list for “liquid spearmint”

Vitamin C – 100%
Vitamin B6 – 100%
Vitamin B12 – 100%
Taurine 1000mg
D-Ribose 250mg
L-Carnitine 200mg
Inositol 100mg
Panax Ginseng 50mg
