Caffeine and guarana are related, but also chemically different and have a VERY big difference as to how they end up affecting the body as far as energy generation. Caffeine, as coffee drinkers know, has a "spike" or "bump" in energy levels, but guarana has a slow even burn, since it is different in composition. It is classified within the xanthine category, along with mate, another South American drink.

Guarana is similar to theobromine, which is found in real chocolate and gives that "feel good " effect.
